To create your own miniature laser tag, it'll require the construction of several small parts, that together make an entire game. The materials needed to produce the game are listed below, with a description to help you determine what you need. The lens, Popsicle sticks, lasers, foil, and small targets are all attached to a magnetic strip, allowing them to stick to a whiteboard. Students can then play with these parts to see how light will interact with the various objects. You can click on the photos to be taken to an online store to purchase these parts.

Semicircular Lens

Semicircular Lens

Semicircular lens are a key component to your miniature laser tag. I used lens that were approximately 5" in diameter, which proved a good size. Furthermore, I would recommend 1 semicircular lens per group of 3 students. Clicking the photo will take you to an online shop, where can purchase similar lens.

Popsicle Sticks

Popsicle Sticks

Cheap Popsicle sticks are ideal for creating the walls of your miniature laser tag. Feel free to give your students a couple of these walls, allowing them to create a small maze! They're an important part of the exercise, forcing students to use the mirrors and lens to achieve their goal.

Laser Pointers

Laser Pointers

When the room is pitch black, regular laser pointers from your local dollar store ought to be enough. Again, ensure one laser pointer per group. For your own demonstration, I would recommend a laser that projects a line.

Metal Foil

Metal Foil

More specifically, I used thin aluminum with a layer of reflective mylar film. Using this reflective side is an affordable way to create the mirrors for this project. Simply cut the foil to size, and attach to the magnetic strip.

Small Targets

Small Targets

The game isn't complete without an objective, so make small targets for the students to aim at. Many laser pointers come with extra lids, so consider using these as targets!

Magnetic Strip

Magnetic Strip

Attaching all of your components to magnets allows the game to be played on a whiteboard! Clicking on the photo will take you to a magnetic strip with adhesive!

Hot Glue Gun

Hot Glue Gun

A hot glue gun is a quick and easy way to apply your popsicle sticks, mirrors and obstacles to magnets. Hopefully, the semicircular lens can be attached with merely the adhesive on your magnetic strip. If not, use hot glue here too.

Spray Paint

Spray Paint

Purely for aesthetics, considering completing your project with a quick spray of black paint.

Protractor

Protractor

For measuring angles, you'll need a protractor for each group. Preferably, print a protractor design onto laminate paper, so that it is thin and see-through. Clicking on the image will take you to a design you can use.
